So let me get this clear.
Lesbian Marie-Antoinette is cool and cute and fancy and “in” or some shit.
And gay (and asexual and communist) Robespierre is the worst of evil.
In 2003 there’s a French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst (practicing in hospitals!) who wrote a biography that was re-edited by the famous CNRS in 2009. Barely 6 years later. It was important to do so in order to fight against the terrorists, the fanatics and the believers of virtue, etc. and fight against the corrupt, etc. and Bane and Dr. Crane too I guess. (I guess he was talking with Christopher Nolan and knew his script already?)
He pretty much wrote that Robespierre was a gay tramp who slept with all the men he befriended.
He also wrote - a practicing psychiatrist, I remind you! - that homosexuality was a narcissistic perversion (because being attracted to ~The Same~ as in the same gender) and that Robespierre secretly desired to be female (so I guess he’s trans* now too?) because he nosebled and a student of Freud once wrote that nosebleeding was the sign, in males, of wanting to menstruate.
He also wrote that Saint-Just (who was his pretty gay lover) was the enabler of incest with his mother. Because we all know that’s how sexual abuse works.
Nobody complained.
And that, citizens, is how 21st century France works.
That’s about the size of it. Because, you know, lesbians are hot but gay men are icky. And communist, apparently. D:<
