Ah…Wolfe Tone. One of my heroes.
Although they’ve sanitized it a bit here…not a surprise, as he cut his own throat. I suppose this is the moment before really got it underway.
They refused his request to be shot as a soldier, prefering to hang him as a traitor. He circumvented that. Legend has it that he was initially bandaged and was warned that if he walked and reopened his wound, he’d die of blood loss. He responded “So be it.”.
He was treated by a French Royalist emigre doctor and requests for another doctor were refused, so there is some question over how the wound was treated (or even if the official “self inflicted” version is true).
